“The People Speak” On DVD

The documentary film “The People Speak” is soon to be released on a Region-1 DVD in two different versions:

  • the On Air DVD, featuring the documentary as it aired on History Channel on December 13, 2009, available from January 15, 2010, and purchasable from History.com and
  • the Collector’s (Extended) Edition, available from February 9, 2010, and purchasable from Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble .

“The People Speak” is inspired by Howard Zinn’s books A People’s History of the United States and Voices of a People’s History of the United States, edited with Anthony Arnove. It takes a look at the United States decades-long struggle with the issues of war, race, class, and women’s rights and celebrates the extraordinary possibilities for creating social change that ordinary people have realized throughout the course of our nation’s rich but often ignored history of dissent and protest, featuring the actual words (in letters, songs, poems, speeches, and manifestoes) of rebels, dissenters, and visionaries from the country’s past – and present. Benjamin Bratt is in the cast.
